Did you know that art is not required curriculum in our public schools?
Art Docents are classroom volunteers who teach art lessons to elementary students. At Sherwood we encourage family and community members to volunteer in the classroom to support a volunteer run art program that provides each classroom with the opportunity to engage in visual art. We have lesson plans and materials ready to go!
All it takes is YOU!
The lesson plans are simple and fit into a 45-60 minute time block. The teacher is in the classroom with you to assist and we always find extra support for those projects that get a bit messy. We currently provide 3 art experiences to each classroom per year. Please consider joining the team! Contact Tina Burton at tina@sherwoodpso.com for more information. Please help spread the word!
Can anyone become an Art Docent?
Yes! Involvement by parents and community members contributes to a successful school experience and has a positive impact on student achievement. When caring adults participate in the education of children, students achieve better grades, have better attendance, complete homework, and show higher aspirations.
Expectations for Art Docents:
* One year volunteer commitment to assigned classrooms
* Art docents are asked to work with their school art docent coordinator to make sure all school based procedures are followed.
Here are some examples of the wonderful art our students have created.
